We use the present simple

 

  • for facts ( things that are always true ) 

  • for permanent situations

  • to describe opinions and ideas

  • to describe likes and dislikes

 

We use the present simple for things that are often repeated, or that happen regularly

 

We usually use the present simple when we describe what happens in a film, play or book
